The project

The Big Draw is a national campaign to get people drawing.  We are joining in by connecting people across thousands of miles using birds, stamps, messages and pictures.

At this time of year birds migrate from north to south.  We are reversing that pattern by creating a growing flock of posted pictures, starting at the Equator in Uganda, flying north via Camberwell (London), Ullapool (Scottish highlands) and eventually arriving en masse in Stornoway (Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides).  Our participants won't meet each other but they will see each other's artwork and messages.  Some of it will have travelled thousands of miles.

Starting in the south, people will draw a bird on a card and write a message with their thoughts about migration, travel or distance.  The cards will be sent to the next destination.  There they will be displayed, and people in that place will be asked to add to the flock in the same way.  Then all those cards will be sent north, and so on.

This website will follow the progress of the flock as it travels north.

Eventually the flock will land and will stay together so it can be exhibited in various places, including those it has passed through.
